Terms of Service

Last updated: March 22, 2026

1. General Terms

FrictionBox is a friction-gate platform that helps you manage attention by inserting configurable interstitials called "gates" between you and distracting websites or apps. Gates run as micro-apps shown before a site loads, giving you a moment to decide whether to proceed.

By using FrictionBox, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the platform.

2. Data Access & Privacy

FrictionBox uses Google OAuth solely for user identity, to sign you in and associate your settings with your account. FrictionBox does not request access to any Google service data (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, etc.).

Your site list and gate configuration are stored locally in your browser. When signed in, your configuration may be synced to our servers using a key-value store keyed to your user ID. FrictionBox does not sell, share, or monetize your data.

The Chrome extension operates locally in your browser. It intercepts navigation to configured sites and displays gate interstitials. No browsing data is transmitted to FrictionBox servers.

3. Extension Behavior

The FrictionBox Chrome extension intercepts navigation to sites you have configured in your friction list. It does not modify page content, inject ads, or collect browsing history. The extension only activates for sites explicitly listed in your configuration.

4. Plugins & Third-Party Boxes

FrictionBox supports installable plugins ("boxes") that may be authored by third parties. All plugins run inside a sandboxed iframe served from frictionbox.app and interact with the platform exclusively through the BoxContext API. Plugins cannot access your browsing data, modify page content, or execute code outside their iframe sandbox.

Plugins may declare external API dependencies. These requests are proxied through FrictionBox servers and restricted to domains explicitly declared in the plugin's manifest. No plugin can make undeclared network requests.

FrictionBox reviews plugins for policy compliance but does not guarantee the accuracy, quality, or suitability of third-party plugin content. You use third-party plugins at your own discretion. FrictionBox may remove any plugin that violates these terms or our content policies.

5. Liability

FrictionBox is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. FrictionBox shall not be held liable for any damages arising from the use of the platform, extension, or any gates — including third-party plugins.

6. Changes to These Terms

FrictionBox may update these Terms of Service at any time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
